A few years back I was approached by a internationally renowned conference and banqueting centre to host and DJ a series of events. I gave a price they were extremely pleased with. The Operations Manager then said something that started an obsession that remains with me to this day: “That's extremely good value, I wish the guys doing the audio visual hire were as reasonable.......”.
When he told me how much he'd been quoted I instantly knew I could do it for a fraction of the price. As it turned out we were around 25% of the original quote and that person and company are still great clients and friends to this day.
Steve McKenna Events manages to be competitively priced because you don't have to pay for our : sales, admin, H.R., accounting or technical staff .....as we don't have any. We do have an office and a warehouse full of staging, p.a. systems, D.J. equipment, lights and room dressing for everything from award ceremonies to weddings. Our sales and marketing come purely from word of mouth and personal recommendation. The staffing and office are just add-ons for the team who cover the rest of the work I do, whilst our technical staff are all freelancers. Just as you may hire an electrician, we hire audio visual engineers, however, as we're hiring the same people hundred's of times we get great prices and loyalty.
